Monday, April 5, 2004 - 2203 companies notified ANRC in order to obtain the right to provide electronic communication networks and services. 1828 companies have already received the authorisation. 185 companies were granted the right to provide telephony services, from which 181 will use fixed public networks, 73 terrestrial mobile networks, and 11 will provide telephony services through satellite. As regards the fixed telephony services, 136 companies intend to cover the local calls segment, 142 - long distance calls and 161 - international calls. Apart from telephone services, 593 companies can provide other types of services as data transmissions, Internet access, mobile professional radio communications, radio paging.

Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - The ANRC President presented in the opening of the Telecom 2004 Conference data regarding the rate of access to communications services on the Romanian territory. These data are part of a study entitled „Communications? Outlook”, conducted by the ANRC personnel between July 26 and October 29, 2003, in order to evaluate the situation and characteristics of the Romanian communications market. The study comprises a series of statistics, such as fixed telephony penetration rate at national level, the number of locations with no access to fixed or mobile telephony services per counties, coverage rate of CATV services, etc. The ANRC President?s presentation is available on the institution?s website at the address:

Thursday, April 8, 2004 - ANRC published on its website the methodologies, general principles and proposed timeframe to be followed by ANRC while it develops the „bottom-up” costing model for the calculation of long run average incremental costs of Romtelecom S.A. The elaboration of the aforementioned model represents the second necessary step for the cost orientation of the fixed operator?s interconnection tariffs. After being developed, this model will be reconciled with the “top-down” costing calculation method. The document also includes the methodology to be applied by the ANRC in order to reconcile the two models and develop a hybrid model to be used for setting cost oriented interconnection tariffs.
