PM Emil Boc launched an appeal to all parties from Romania to forge the political consensus necessary to continue reforms and the fight against corruption

The EC Report on justice in Romania is a balanced and realist one, PM Emil Boc stated on a press briefing after Wednesday Executive meeting of July 22nd 2009.
“This report on justice gets two positive pieces of news for Romania. The first is that the safeguard clause will not be triggered anymore; this means that the rulings issued by Romanian authorities will be recognized across EU. The second good piece of news refers to the fact that the Report does not bring along any sanction against Romania”, the Head of the Executive stated.
Prime Minister has added that the European Commission noted the progress achieved since its last report. PM Emil Boc launched an appeal to all parties from Romania to forge the necessary political consensus to continue reforms and the fight against corruption.
“I believe that we further need very firm and clear evidence on the part of the political factor to reaffirm that in this country, nobody is above law. And from this standpoint, the Executive will endorse and prepare the legislative acts for such a step to be backed, expecting that other political actors, parties from Parliament set as priority in their activity the observance of this principle: nobody is above law”, PM Boc stated.
The Head of the Executive called on the Cabinet members with competence in the justice field to draw up an action plan until August 14th, with a view to enacting the measures recommended in the EC Report.
These measures that need to be punctually enacted refer to:
- preparation of the enactment of the two Codes passed by Parliament and of the two procedure codes still under parliamentary procedure;
- preparation and strengthening of the human resource capacity in the justice field;
- further implementation of adequate measures with respect to jurisprudence unification;
- stability and functionality of the legal framework for countering corruption;
- Further enactment of local strategies to counter corruption.

“In other words, we took the next steps very in serious and we consider that what we achieved, has been appreciated by the EC”, PM Emil Boc has stated.
