PM Victor Ponta: Romanian Government backs competitiveness of foreign investment, particularly in the steel industry

On this occasion, Lakshmi Mittal has presented the developments in the steel and mining industry and the concerns of ArcelorMittal group to ensure a sustainable future of this industry in Europe and particularly in Romania. In the context of the analysis on the group's activities in Europe, there were discussed some proposals on improving the efficiency of ArcelorMittal Galati, including solutions to optimize the production costs.
The President of ArcelorMittal has expressed the hope that the investment climate in Romania will keep its attractiveness and sustainable solutions can be identified, especially in energy. Prime Minister Victor Ponta has expressed the Romanian Government’ support for effective and long-term activity of ArcelorMittal group in Romania and Romania's interest to strengthen its competitive attributes on foreign investment, particularly in the steel industry.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister has recalled the energy issue addressing on the occasion of the meeting of the European Council next week, a context in which there will be addressed the implications of these policies on other sectors, especially energy-intensive industries in Europe. The Prime Minister has assured the President of ArcelorMittal that he will extend attention in this context too to the issues raised and the implications on competitiveness, presented at the meeting.
