'The Government and I as Prime Minister are concerned with the increase in price at natural gas and energy and with the impact the price increase is to have on the population, especially on the underprivileged social categories, PM Calin Popescu - Tariceanu has stated at the beginning of the Government meeting
The Head of Executive reminded that it is not the first time when the Government has talks and takes decisions to reduce the effects of the increase in gas price and thermal energy.
PM Tariceanu decided that the Ministry of Economy and Finance should further work with the Ministry of Labour, Family and Equal Opportunities to conceive a set of measures to support the underprivileged social categories affected by the increase in gas price. Support is granted only to the poor social categories, pensioners and people with low revenues.
'This is not populism, we are taking measures only for the poor categories,' stressed the Premier.
'I saw that people try to find a guilty body for the price increase and namely the Government. The Government does not set prices in an economy such as ours, a market economy. The market sets the price depending on the law of demand and offer,' Head of Government has stated, referring to the decision of the National Regulatory Authority in Energy to increase the price of natural gas and electricity.
At the beginning of the Government meeting, Romanian PM hailed the signing of the Code of good practice in food trade between producers and traders, emphasizing that in the upcoming period, the Competition Council has to get involved more actively in the relevant market.
