The overall excise for cigarettes enforceable as of July 1st 2008, will include the specific excise of 27, 31 EUR/ 1000 cigarettes plus the ad - valorem excise, representing 25% of the declared maximum price of retail sale, according to a Government Decision, adopted on Tuesday meeting of the Executive
According to Fiscal Code, as of July 1st 2008, the overall excise for cigarettes will amount to 50 EUR/ 1000 cigarettes.
According to commitments undertaken by Romania to EU, the level of excise for cigarettes is yearly increased until it reaches the minimum compulsory level stipulated by the Directive 10/ 2002 of the European Commission. According to the agreed calendar, in 2010, the level of excise will reach 74 euro/ 1000.
