Minister Comanescu has appreciated the discussions as “friendly” and direct”. He has emphasized that he received assurances that “all Romanian nationals will be treated as any other European Union nationals”. The Italian authorities have stated that the measures to implement the normative acts adopted in the immigration field will comply with European legislation.
An important topic on the discussion agenda was the two countries' interest to “consolidate the economic component”, both in the bilateral relations and whereby the involvement within European projects such as: European Neighborhood Policy or EU Strategy on a new partnership with Central Asia.
