Press release

PM Victor Ponta condemns the unacceptable gesture of Rapid Bucureşti football team fans who understood to support their team by burning Hungary’s flag.
"There is no excuse for this gesture. I categorically reject such irresponsible and unacceptable gestures for a society that wants to promote and live in the European values of tolerance, friendship and inclusiveness. I hope that beyond sports sanctions, the Gendarmerie identifies those who agreed to support their team in this reprehensible way and applies the law with the utmost rigor. "
Prime Minister outlines that such gestures are rejected by the Romanian society, representing the excess of people confined to a series of stereotypes and prejudices that must be combated firmly in the public space. Events of this kind have no place in any 21st century European society and much less in a sports arena.
The Romanian Government demands respect for national symbols of any state, and respect for national symbols of the Romanian state.
