On Wednesday, 8th of August 2001, the members of the governmental inquiry commission have handed the families of the 14 miners killed in the blast at the Vulcan coal mine 75 million lei, the emergency aid granted by the Government for each family. Today, the families of victims will also receive the aids granted by the National Coal Company.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Interior, Ioan Rus expressed once more, on behalf of Prime Minister Adrian Nastase, condolences to the mourning families.

The Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity Marian Sarbu stated that these aids can in no way replace the loss of the loved ones, yet, just like the presence of the governmental commission to the Jiu Valley, they stand for the commitment of the Cabinet to further support he families of the victims and to closely survey the improvement, so that such accidents would no longer occur in the future.
