As a result of the situation created following the terrorist attacks against U.S. civil, official and military targets, the Ministry of National Defence has adopted a number of its own measures, immediately after the events occurred, later to be supplemented by those approved by the Supreme National Defence Council in its Extraordinary Meeting, September 11, 2001:

- to establish a crisis cell at the Military Command Operational Center to permanently monitor the evolution of events, and operational teams at various MoD echelons;
- to maintain continuous connection of the MoD leadership with Romania?s representations at UN, NATO, EU and OSCE;
- to strengthen security and defence of barracks, stores, airfields, ports and other significant strategic targets;
- to take measures of implementing the emergency intervention plans, either independently or in cooperation with other institutions with responsibilities in the field of defence, national order and security;
- to continuously check the military connection and warning systems;
- to intensify surveillance and reconnaissance of the national air, sea and ground space.

The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns the terrorist attacks occurred yesterday in the U.S.A. and expresses its deepest sympathy for the victims of these attacks.
